Choosing a Stud Dog: Health, Temperament and Contracts
Posted by Dog Supplies R Us on
The right stud is chosen for health and compatibility, not appearance alone.
What breeders need to know
Step 1
Review official breed-specific screening and inherited risks for both dogs. A previous successful litter does not prove current fertility or health.
Step 2
Evaluate temperament, physical structure, maturity, and whether the pairing could increase known health concerns.
Step 3
Discuss infectious disease screening and semen evaluation with a reproductive veterinarian where appropriate.
Step 4
Put fees, veterinary responsibilities, cancellations, repeat-breeding terms, and recordkeeping obligations in a written agreement before any breeding occurs.
