Itraconazole is an anti-fungal, sometimes prescribed by veterinarians to treat fungal infections of the coat, skin, nails in cats and dogs, and for gastric, dermic, tissue and respiratory conditions in horses.

 

Uses

Itraconazole is indicated for the treatment of dermatophytosis caused by Microsporum canis in cats. In dogs, it can be used to treat systemic mycoses. In horses, it may be useful in the treatment of sporotrichosis, and Coccidioides immitis osteomylitis.

 

Possible Side Effects

Please contact your veterinarian if any of the following adverse reactions occur: salivation, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, depression, and apathy.

Talk to your veterinarian about any other drugs your pet is taking before starting this medication, including but not limited to amphotericin b, antacids, benzodiazepines, buspirone, busulfan, calcium-channel blocking agents, ciprofloxacin, cisapride, colchicine.

 

Precautions

Do not administer to animals with hypersensitivity to itraconazole.
